My first album All of Me was released February 12, 2012 Mastered by Don Tyler of Precision Mastering in Los Angeles. Don has mastered such recordings as Back To Bedlam and All The Lost Souls by James Blunt, Matchbox 20 - Yourself Of Someone Like You, Beck - Static, The Rolling Stones - Street Fighting Man (live) and Cake - Motorcade Of Generosity, Prolonging The Magic, Fashion Nugget and Comfort Eagle.
All Of Me consists of 10 original songs with a total play time of 45.20 Producing my own album is something I've wanted to do for years. If you like acoustic guitar, you'll probably dig my music. It's my unique version of acoustic/alternative rock. I've written all the lyrics, arranged the music and performed all the instruments myself. Electric & acoustic guitars, bass, synthesizers, lead and backup vocals, drums and percussion. I started this project in Dec 2008 and quickly found out that it was going to take much more work than I ever imagined. It's been a labor of love and I've poured my heart & soul into it.
Some of the songs are a bit edgy as they reflect difficult times we all experience in life. But others are about hope and love. I've infused psychedelic electronic sounds to create a unique musical texture .
What my fans are saying - "I love your cd. I don't even know where to begin! The whole world should hear your music. You are soooo talented! I hope you sell millions!!"
My second album Blast Off was released on October 19th 2012. Throughout the production of this album I could hear my song writing developing into my own unique style. This album is well balanced from beginning to end and my vocal delivery has a little more attitude. Blast Off is bare bones acoustic rock. Just steel string guitar, drums and bass. The backing synth is barely evident in only a few songs and lacks the electronic effects that are in my first album.
Blast Off was mastered by Justin Phelps at Cloud City Sound in Portland Oregon. It consists of 10 original songs with a total play time of 39.44.
The title of this second album and many of the songs were inspired by my desire to create a new life for myself in Hawaii. I think we all question our life direction from time to time and for me I reached a point where I needed to make some life saving changes. Now I'm finally living my long time dream as a performing solo recording artist in the tropics. Meeting new friends and other fellow musicians is beyond fulfilling as I continue to break into the Maui music scene and get people to hear my songs.
Besides promoting my original music I've played bass in a few bands with like minded musicians. Currently I've been writing and recording with a very talented guitarist - Chris Sendrey. We've named our project 88. We have a Reverbnation page. It's my hope that we'll gain a solid fan base and begin playing shows by years end.
In March of 2016 I started recording a third solo album titled "An Shay Alay". I'm currently at the mastering phase. An Shay Alay contains 9 tracks that incorperate a solid rhythmic foundation of bass & drums with creative electronic effects, oscillators and synthesizers. The musical style is reminiscent of Pink Floyd or The Flaming Lips. My songs are about relationships, love, hope and life. The music is truly unique and I'd classify the genre as Psychadelic dream alternative.
Coming to Maui? Let me know and I'll tell you where I'm playing.
At age 8 I started with a love for drums and so began my rhythmic development. I was influenced my older Sister who played the guitar and sang with her friends. Sometimes she would recruit me for some needed vocal harmonies. I picked up the guitar and began exploring sounds and learning chords. My Parents couldn't afford music lessons for me so I learned everything by ear. In High School my music career really began to develop. My friends wanted to start a band and needed a bass player so I went out and bought a cheap bass. We started learning to play our favorite rock music: Rush, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd and AC/DC. I was designated as the lead singer. I started writing lyrics and learning about song construction.
By age 23 I had been in several rock bands. The most notable was with a band called The Dan Reed Network. We played clubs in the Portland/Vancouver area and did some studio recording. As the band changed, I decided that if I wanted to be a professional musician, it would be in my best interest to go to college and earn a degree as a soloist so I began to study the classical guitar. Early morning newspaper delivery/classical guitar student for four tiring years.
Since earning my guitar performance degree I've performed for just about every occasion imaginable from weddings to memorial services and have operated my own guitar instruction business.
